Why do people use GoDaddy for anything other than domain registration???
Latest fun-filled afternoon with GoDaddy involved moving email accounts from an existing GoDaddy account to a new GoDaddy Account. Sounds simple enough, Right?
It begins with combing through the cryptic help pages regarding email. Nope, Nothing there.
Perhaps a phone call to them. Do I want to spend an hour on hold to talk to someone reading a script that I can’t unsderstand? Not particularly.
That means going to the ever-wonderful chat and trying to get the bot to understand that I want to move emails and not a domain. Finally, afte about 15 min of bot chat, I resort to using the magic words “Talk to someone”. Finally, I begin the countdown to “help”.
It looks like this:

At this point it becomes a quest, a standoff to just see how long either of us will wait before giving up.
Finally only 15 min later I get connected to Vanshdeep S and begin the process of explaining and re-explaining I just want to make a new GoDaddy account for the client and move the emails to it. I thought the way I just phrased it would work, but it was another 10 min of back and forth before he tells me I need to make a new account and then move the email accounts to it. A bit more prying and I discover, that after making the new account, the same packages must be purchased and in place then it takes a call to the “Migration Team” to get things going.
I asked for a timeline and he said I could call the migration team when I’m ready, so basically, no timeline…
Then I asked about backing up before moving forward. GoDaddy doesn’t provide a means of backing up email accounts, so he gave me a link explaining how to do it through Outlook on the local machines. Again, not a lot of help. You would think that backups would be a staple in a large IT provider. In my brain, it’s one of the most important things. Seems to me I should have known after this
So here we are, essentially back to square one. First item is to have the client establish a Godaddy account and purchase the email packages. Next up is get them to make a phone call to the migration team. Apparently, phone support is the only option.
So another hour or so of my life wasted with GoDaddy – my advice – NOT use GoDaddy for email hosting or really anything.
You can take that as you wish.
